A pair of beat cops were able to chase down two serial armed robbers who police believe are responsible for nearly a dozen robberies around the Common and possibly more.

Tommy Gedeus, 20, and Christian Ruiz, 18, both of Boston, were ordered held on $50,000 bail Thursday.

About 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers assigned to a walking beat in the Downtown Crossing area happened upon a robbery in the Common. The men pulled a knife on a 15-year-old and 17-year-old skateboarding in the park and took their money, phones and iPods.

Officers Paul Sanders and Robert Dirienzo gave chase and captured the alleged robbers after a struggle near the turnstiles inside the Park Street MBTA station.

Police said they believe the men are responsible for 11 other robberies near the Common, in Cambridge and on the T that date back to October. The men apparently targeted college students and teens who typically had electronic devices.
