Cops said they arrived at Fresh Pond Road between 60th Drive and Elliot Avenue in the residential neighborhood at around 2:52 a.m. to find 32-year-old Karoll Grzegorczyk on the ground.
Unconscious, unresponsive and with trauma throughout his body, Grzegorczyk was in the middle of the two-lane roadway.
EMS and paramedics rushed Grzegorczyk to Elmhurst Hospital Center, but the man was declared dead upon arrival.
Investigators believe Grzegorczyk was walking southbound on Fresh Pond Road when he began to cross the street, walking out from between parked cars, when moving car struck him.
Authorities only described the suspected car as a dark-color sedan also traveling south on Fresh Pond, but the driver fled the scene after hitting Grzegorczyk.
No arrests were made as of Monday morning.
