Cops say Salem mom slashed kids’ throats (UPDATED)

A Salem mother was ordered held without bail this morning as she answered to charges that she allegedly slashed the throat of her two children and set her apartment on fire.

Tanicia Goodwin, 25, was charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and arson, according to the Essex district attorney’s office.

She was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for next week.

The 8-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl are in critical condition at Children’s Hospital Boston today, authorities said.

Emergency personnel were called to the Salem Heights apartment complex last night for a report of a fire. The children were found inside the apartment and that’s when rescue workers discovered that the childrens’ throats were slashed.

Prosecutors said that Goodwin had superficial wounds to her own neck. She also allegedly deactivated or manipulated all of the fire sprinklers and detectors in the apartment and broke the doorknob off of the door, according to court documents.
