Cops search for cop-impersonating robbers

Cops are searching for two men they said pretended to be police officers, only to follow a man to his hotel room and swipe his cash.

Police announced today that on June 3, around 6:15 a.m., two people approached a 42-year-old man at West 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue.

The two men identified themselves as police offices, cops said, and asked him for identification.

He didn’t have identification, and told them it was in his room at the Econo Lodge on 47th Street.

Cops said the suspects, still pretending to be officers, escorted him to the hotel, where they then demanded money.

He gave them cash, and then all three got into a cab, because the suspects said they needed to go to the precinct to check the money, according to cops.

Instead, arriving at 125th Street, the suspects got out of the cab, jumped into another vehicle and pushed the victim out of the way, cops said.

Anyone with information about the suspects should call 800-577-TIPS.
