Cops seek gunman thwarted by officer

The NYPD is looking for Winston Cox, 19, for storming a Bed-Stuy beauty parlor Saturday night. According to the NYPD, the 5-foot-7, 140-pound Cox entered Sabine’s Hallway Beauty Salon on Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn and demanded customers’ cash.

Off-duty police officer Feris Jones was in the middle of getting her hair done when she sprang into action. As she tried to defuse the situation, Cox fired at her three times. Remarkably, the teen missed her from close range inside the small beauty parlor.

Jones, a 20-year veteran, returned fire, injuring Cox and foiling the robbery. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly praised Jones yesterday for her “professionalism and remarkable calm.”

Cox was believed to have been wounded in the right arm or leg and may be bandaged.

“Thank God she was there, because it could have gone differently,” store owner Sabine Bellevue told the New York Post. “He was fully loaded.”
