The woman was at her Washington Heights apartment when she answered the door at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect allegedly forced himself on the 20-year-old victim and raped her before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center where officials said she remained in stable condition.

Authorities said the man had been inside the apartment building earlier when the woman came home and followed her into the elevator to her floor but not to her unit.

Surveillance video from the building showed the man to be a Hispanic male between 20 to 25 years old, approximately 6-feet-9-inches tall last seen wearing black pants and a white shirt with dark horizontal stripes.
