Defense attorneys and other criminal experts are raising questions about the force used by a state police trooper during the arrest of a man after a car chase Monday. The suspect, Alejandro Serra, 29, of Fra-mingham, allegedly tried to run over a grandfather and grandson in the South End Monday and nearly struck a trooper before leading police on a chase along the turnpike. Video from a WBZ-TV helicopter showed an officer punching Serra.

Thomas Nolan, a BU criminologist called it “startlingly exaggerated police response.”

A police spokesman said that a committee will review the pursuit.
