A man was seriously injured when a car crashed into him at a Dorchester gas station Sunday morning, pinning him between the car and a post.

Boston fire crews were called to the Citgo gas station at 741 Morrissey Blvd. at about 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, the crews found the man pinned between the car and a post that protects the gas pumps.

According to the fire department, the man was outside his car at the gas pump when he was hit from behind by another car. That car moved the man’s car out of the station and pinned the man.

While the incident was ongoing, the overhead extinguishing system activated, covering the station, fire trucks and emergency responders with white powder.

Firefighters had to use extrication tools to free the man.

He was taken to a hospital with a serious leg injury, according to the fire department.

Police are investigating.
