ELMONT – A Crown Fried Chicken employee thwarted two robbers who stormed into his workplace early Thursday morning with a shotgun and an order for register cash.

Nassau County police said the 54-year-old locked himself in the store’s basement and called for help as the robbers fumbled unsuccessfully with the register and then fled. The suspects are described as two black males, approximately 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10, and 20 to 25 years old.
