Somerville police and the Middlesex district attorney’s office said today that a 28-year-old man was shot in the neck and is fighting for his life.

Police responded to 196 Broadway at about 11:30 p.m. yesterday for the shooting. There they found the unidentified man suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Emergency crews took the man to Massachusetts General Hospital where is is in critical condition.

Authorities said the man and 33-year-old Santano Dessin, of Somerville, became involved in some verbal fight. The fight led to Dessin allegedly shooting the man, authorities said.
