The mayoral race standings have shaken up again just weeks before Primary Day. In the latest poll, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn are tied for the lead.
According to the The Wall Street Journal/NBC 4 New York/Marist poll, de Blasio and Quinn are in first place with 24 percent of support from likely Democratic voters. Bill Thompson is in third place with 18 percent, Anthony Weiner follows with 11 percent and City Comptroller John Liu trails with 5 percent.
Twelve percent of voters remain undecided.
“Weiner has faded, and Quinn and de Blasio are running dead even, with Thompson in striking distance,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “The big change in the numbers has been a gain in de Blasio’s standing from the previous poll to make this a very tight contest.”
De Blasio has jumped from 17 percent among likely voters in the same poll last month, likely fueled by his growth in support from black voters. De Blasio, whose latest campaign ad is narrated by his bi-racial son, has the support of 20 percent of black Democratic voters in this poll compared to 10 percent in July’s poll.
The public advocate catapulted to first place in a Quinnipiac University poll on Tuesday with 30 percent of support. Quinn came in second place with 24 percent of support in that poll.
Meanwhile, Weiner has struggled to get out his fourth place standing. The former congressman had been in first place for awhile before it was revealed that he continued to exchange lewd photos with women online after he resigned from Congress.
The new poll was conducted between August 12-14. The margin of error was plus or minus 5.2 percentage points.
