Death of Carlisle Brigham Champalimaud, 29, ruled an accident

Update, 4:12 p.m. Tuesday: The mysterious death of a woman on the Lower East Side on Monday was officially ruled an accident by the city Medical Examiner’s Office Tuesday afternoon, according to the New York Post.

Carlisle Brigham, 29, may have tripped on her high heels and fallen down a flight of steep stairs, resulting in her untimely death, according to the New York Post.

She was found the next morning at the bottom of the staircase at 191 Orchard Street, covered in blood and with gashes to her neck.

Brigham is the daughter of a former New York City budget director, James Brigham.

Cops are investigating after a 29-year-old woman, whose wedding was featured in The New York Times just last year and worked at one of the city’s premier museums, ended up dead and bleeding heavily in a Lower East Side stairwell.

Police said that around 11 a.m. today on Orchard Street, police responded to a 911 call and found Carlisle Brigham, 29, (who is also being recognized as Carlisle BrighamChampalimaud), bleeding heavily from her neck.

She was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital, and cops said they are investigating.

It may have been an accident after she fell down the stairs, according to reports.

Brigham reportedly worked at the American Museum of Natural History and had been married last year. Her nuptials were featured in The New York Times, which identified her as a graduate of the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Wall Street Journal reported that she was estranged from her husband, Anthony Champalimaud, 34. NBC reported that he is in England.

Brigham is the daughter of James Brigham Jr. According to the Times, he was chairman of the New York City Public Development Corporation and later the city’s budget director.

According to the newspaper, she was apparently sharing the apartment while estranged from her spouse, and her roommate told officials he spoke to her this morning and she sounded distraught.

NBC also reported that officials are also investigating whether she fell down
a flight of stairs and sliced her chin.
