Dennis Szymanski: Northeastern student up on threatening witness charges

A Northeastern University graduate student accused of selling drugs in Philadelphia and then threatening the government’s cooperating witness will be in federal court today.

Dennis Szymanski allegedly had telephone conversations about making a drug deal with a person who was working as a government informant. He arranged to meet the informant at a Best Buy parking lot in South Philadelphia in April to provide him with 2 kilograms of MDA, also known as the “love drug,” in exchange for $36,000, according to court documents.

The pair met and exchanged the drugs for money and Szymanski was arrested by federal

agents. He was released on $50,000 bail and was ordered to undergo random drug testing.

However, authorities allege that when Szymanski returned to Massachusetts he began to threaten the witness and his girlfriend.

Szymanski created a fake Facebook profile and sent messages to the informant’s girlfriend.

He also sent an e-mail to the informant from ratexterminator105@yahoo.com with the subject line “YOU RAT (expletive),” officials said.

“YOU THINK YOU ARE SLICK???,” the e-mail said, according to court documents. “WE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AND WE WILL MAKE THIS RIGHT. EVEN IF THIS TAKES 20 YEARS YOU WILL REGRET WHAT YOU DID DEARLY.”

Authorities tracked the messages to a computer in the library of the UMass Medical School in Worcester. They were then able to find Szymanski on surveillance camera using the computer, authorities said.
