The renovated Dilworth Plaza will open in September.
In an email Wednesday Center City District officials announced the west side of City Hall, to be renamed Dilworth Park, is on pace to officially open in September.
Paul Levy, president and CEO of the Center City District, will unveil the opening date and more information about the new commuter park at a press conference on Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. Initial reports indicate that the CCD is planning a three-day-long opening celebration.
The new, $70 million park will feature expanded green space as well as a new cafe. New, glass entrances will also connect pedestrians to the SEPTA concourses below.
Park enthusiasts will also have access to wifi as well as chairs and tables that will be spread throughout the park. And, in the winter, the large fountain will be converted into an ice rink .
The park was set to open in the spring, but construction delays pushed back the unveiling and added costs.
