Dog-fighting ring in Bronx busted

The ASPCA and the NYPD busted a dog fighting ring in the Bronx today that included dog treadmills and syringes – and 47 pit bulls.

According to the ASPCA, they removed dogs from a building on Sherman Avenue in the Bronx, moving them to a temporary shelter to be examined and cared for by ASPCA responders.

Cops arrested Raul Sanchez, charging him with animal fighting and cruelty.

Bret Hopman, a spokesman for the ASPCA, told Metro that so far this afternoon, about 47 adult dogs and as many as 10 puppies had been taken from the residence.

In an email with the subject line, “Who Let the Dogs Out? (We did),” the NYPD reported that dogs had “various injuries indicative of dog fighting.”

The six-story apartment building included a makeshift arena where about 100 people could watch the alleged fights, cops said.

They also found a handgun, 22 small wooden cages, harnesses and muzzles, syringes and a shopping cart full of raw chicken parts, said police.
