Dog owners in Saugus are on high alert after items that are poisonous to dogs were discovered recently.

"It has come to our attention that brown paper bags containing items known to be poisonous to dogs have been found in Breakheart Reservation," a flyer posted by the Massachusetts State Police and the Department of Conservation and Recreation reads.
The DCR has not yet specified what the poisonous items found were, WCVB reports.
Breakheart Reservation is particularly popular with dog owners due to the extensive trail systems and hiking options.
Authorities also advise dog owners to ensure your pet's safety by keeping them leashed at all times. They ask ask that you do not approach any suspicious individuals or disturb any suspicious items.
The matter is under investigation by Massachusetts Environmental Police.Residents are asked to contact the Massachusetts Environmental Police or State Police if they see something suspicious.
