Former Philadelphia sportscaster Don Tollefson pleaded guilty Monday to ripping off travel groups of more than $300,000.
According to The Doylestown Intelligencer, 62-year-old Tollefson collected money from about 200 people for various charities or in exchange for sports-trip packages but pocketed most of the funds instead.
Tollefson could serve to up to 37 years in jail, according to the newspaper.
Tollefson told a Bucks County judge in Doylestown that he has struggled with mental illness, alcoholism and drug abuse for the majority of his adult life, the newspaper reported.
The former sports broadcaster, of Wyndmoore, known for his boisterous personality on local television stations Fox29 and 6 ABC and his overuse of the word “Awesome,” was charged in February.
