Boston native and “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg is a local favorite, but the New Kids on the Block singer has many Bostonians scratching their heads. Wahlberg stars in Boston-shot commercials for Verizon FiOS, which is not available to most Boston residents.

“This is New England. People tell it straight. No phonies, no fakers, no shortcuts. Verizon FiOS never takes shortcuts either. That’s why they built the only 100 percent fiber-optic network in Massachusetts, unlike Comcast,”Wahlberg says in the video.

“Comcast can talk all they want, but New Englanders tell the truth,” Donnie adds, as he visits Boston landmarks like the Bunker Hill Monument and Copley Square.

Mayor Thomas Menino commented on the situation to the Boston Globe, confirming the bizarre disconnect.

“I think they should put in big letters in the ad, ‘We do not serve Boston. But we’re using Boston as a backdrop, because Boston is a great city,'” said Menino.
