Officers arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with two attempted sexual assaults that occurred on Sunday morning in Dorchester.

According to Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Walter Mains of Dorchester is being charged with attempted rape, armed robbery and several other charges after he allegedly attacked a woman and threatened her with a gun near Harbor View Street just after 2 a.m.

Police are investigating two other sexual assaults that occurred within that time frame Sunday, with which Mains fits the description given by the victims.

He has not been formally charged with those attacks however.

In one instance, a woman was sexually assaulted and threatened with a gun, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges will likely follow, according to police reports.

Police are in the process of applying for multiple search warrants and also awaiting results from physical evidence recovered at the scene.

Mains will be arraigned later today in Dorchester District Court.

Davis said Mains was out on bail for a similar incident in 2009 that happened in the Dudley Square area.
