Dorchester robber targeting women as they walk from Red Line

Boston and Transit Police are beefing up patrols in Dorchester after a series of robberies.

Boston and Transit Police Departments said today they are stepping up patrols in Dorchester after several women were robbed there.

All of the robberies targeted women as they walked home from the MBTA Red Line, including JFK-UMass, Savin Hill, Shawmut and Ashmont Stations.

Boston police said the robberies have been happening between 7 p.m.. and 10:30 p.m.

The suspect, described as a thin black man in his twenties and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, engaged the victims in conversations before demanding money.

In some cases he showed a handgun, police said.
