A Delaware man ate a bag of marijuana — both the contents and the bag — after he was pulled over by police last week.

Harrington Police reported on its Facebook page late Tuesday that Veron Smith, 40, of Dover, Delaware, was stopped on West Center Street in Dover for a traffic violation.

When the officer approached the vehicle, a strong smell of alcohol reportedly wafted from the driver's side.

"Also in plain view in the center console, officers observed a small plastic bag that contained marijuana," according to the report.

The officer returned to his cruiser to call for back-up and run a check on Smith's license, which turned out to be suspended.

"The officer then went back up to the vehicle and noticed the plastic bag was missing," according to police. "Officers then began to speak with Mr. Smith and observed him eating the marijuana."

When the officer attempted to stop him, Smith swallowed the bag whole, police said.

He was taken into custody, where he later admitted to eating the marijuana.

Smith was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana and related offenses.

He was arraigned via video phone and was released after posting $1,850 secured bond, authorities reported.
