Drinking past dawn deadline extended

NEW YORK. Don’t fear, revelers. After a low turnout for the second year in a row, the deadline has been extended for New York City bars to apply for special permits to stay open until 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day, instead of closing at 4 a.m.

After only 165 bars managed to meet last week’s deadline to apply for the late-night permit, the New York State Liquor Authority announced it will accept applications through next Monday, Dec. 7.
