Driver arrested after toddler forgotten about on schoolbus

A school bus driver in Corona, Queens was arrested this morning after police said she left a 2-year-old girl alone on a school bus.

A Con-Ed worker walking past the bus parked at Christie Avenue and 99th Street noticed the child left alone inside at about 9 a.m. today. He called 911, and when police arrived, they had to break into one of the bus’s windows to get the child out.

The girl was scared, but otherwise healthy, police said, and was reunited with her mother. The bus driver, Ana Garcia, 62, was arrested and charged with leaving the girl behind. Garcia said she dropped the other kids on the bus off at a day care center in Queens. She checked the bus, but missed the little girl in the back.

According to the New York Post, the girl was only left alone for about 15 minutes.
