The 73-year-old woman was walking along a sidewalk in Howard Beach near the intersection of 153rd Avenue and 88th Street, pushing a cart of groceries home at around 3:20 p.m.
Videotape shows the two assailants walking behind the woman, slowly coming up to pass her. Suddenly, police said the female suspect reached around the victim to take the victim's purse.
After a brief struggle, the male suspect came up to the victim and seemingly shoved her to the pavement. The two ran off with the victim's pocketbook, which held $100.00 dollars, a pre-paid cell phone and other personnel items.
Once cops and emergency workers arrived at the scene, the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and treated for a laceration to her ear as well as abrasions to her arm.
Authorities described the female suspect as black and about 18 years of age with a thin build and last seen wearing a vest. The male suspect was also described as black and about 18 years old with a thin build, last seen wearing dark clothing and tan cargo shorts.
Police are asking anyone with information about either suspect or the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or to submit tips online.
