An elderly woman is dead after a fire in a high-rise apartment building Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Flames broke out inside 82-year-old Gloria Hillman's apartment, at Seventh Avenue and West 28th Street, around 4:25 a.m., fire and police officials said.
When the fire was extinguished, responders found Hillman unconscious and unresponsive in the third-floor apartment she shared with her grandson, who officials said made it out of the building. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the fire was contained inside Hillman's apartment. No other injuries were reported as a result of the blaze and no one was displaced from the 22-story building.

The cause of the fire and Hillman's death are under investigation, officials said.
A fire truck responding to the blaze collided with another vehicle several blocks away at West 31st Street. Two firefighters were taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries after what officials said was a minor collision.
