MTA announces enhanced weekend service on Manhattan, Queens bus routes

Restored and enhanced service is coming to some bus routes in Manhattan and Queens this weekend, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Tuesday.

Beginning Sunday, weekend service the M8 bus in lower Manhattan and the Q31 bus, which runs between Bayside and Jamaica, will be restored. Sunday service will also begin on the Q77 bus, running between Laurelton and Jamaica.

The changes are part of more than $7.9 million to be invested throughout the city this year for service enhancements. Since 2012, the MTA has invested more than $30 million into New York City Transit through a service-enhancement program.

“We continue to work hard for our customers by strengthening service whenever we have sustainable resources to do so,” NYCT president Carmen Bianco said in a statement.

Service changes, beginning April 6:

  • Weekend service restored:

Q31 will operate:

Saturdays 8:20 a.m to 8 p.m.
Sundays 9:10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

M8 will operate:

Saturdays and Sundays 7 to 1 a.m.

  • Q77 will now provide full weekend service, with new Sunday service:

Sundays 6:55 a.m. to 10:09 p.m.
