Fashion’s Night Out shuts down Newbury Street to traffic

For the first time in 15 years, Newbury Street will be shutdown to all traffic, and fashion will run rampant in the streets of the city.

Boston’s first ever “Fashion’s Night Out” event begins tonight at 7 p.m., officiated by Mayor Thomas Menino.

Fashion’s Night Out is a collaboration between VOGUE Magazine, CFDA, NYC & CO and the City of New York, but it has branched its way to Boston this year.

It is meant to boost retail sales and show off the latest trends.

Participating Boston retailers located in Copley Place, Newbury Street, South End, North End, SOWA, JP, Roslindale will keep their doors open until 11 p.m., many of them offering sales, showing off fashion designs and hosting events.

All of Newbury Street will be shut down for the first time in 15 years, and The Prudential tower is lighting the top pink in celebration of the event.
