Montgomery County became the first county in Pennsylvania to issue same-sex marriage licenses despite commonwealth law that bans such legal recognition.

A gay couple and four lesbian couples were issued marriage licenses Wednesday in Norristown after the county's register of wills D. Bruce Hanes said Tuesday that he believed the law unconstitutional.

Pottstown natives Loreen M. Bloodgood and Alicia A. Terrizzi were the first in line.
