Forbes names priciest cities

Forbes’ annual list of the most expensive places to live in the U.S. put three Manhattan neighborhoods in the top 10, including one new arrival to the vaunted group.

Forbes’ annual list of the most expensive places to live in the U.S. put three Manhattan neighborhoods in the top 10, including one new arrival to the vaunted group.

SoHo’s appearance as the ninth-most-costly spot in the nation was a jump from zip code 10012’s position at 18th last year. A resurgent real estate market in the neighborhood sent the median price of a home there up 22 percent over the last year, the magazine found.

Eleven of the Forbes top 25 were around New York City. In fact, all but one of the top 25 locations was in California, Manhattan or the Big Apple suburbs. The top spot went to a section of Duarte, California, where the median cost of a home was $4,276,462. The town, a half hour drive east of Los Angeles, unseated Alpine, N.J., to be named king of the hill.
