A former police officer shot and killed his wife in on Saturday while their two kids were in the family's Queens home.
Authorities found Jessica Canty, 40, with multiple gun shot wounds in her torso inside the Ozone Park home at around 11 a.m. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where emergency workers pronounced her dead on arrival.
Police took her husband, Kevin Canty, into custody soon after. Canty served as a Manhattan transit officer before he retired last year, the New York Times reported on Sunday.
The Times also reported that Canty's children, an 8-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, bolted from the home to find help when neighbor took them to a deli near the home on 104th Street.
According to the New York Daily News, police found Canty more than a mile away from the family home, stumbling and drunk. The News added that once apprehended and handcuffed, Candy repeatedly banged his head against the police car's window.
On Sunday, police said Canty was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and criminal use of a firearm.
