Four people were killed in Boston in less than five hours yesterday, pushing the city’s homicide rate up to “numbers that speak for themselves,” according to a spokesman from the Boston Police Department.
The city has now seen 24 homicides to date, compared to 32 in 2010.
There were a total of 13 violent incidents in Boston over the July 4 holiday — 11 shootings and two stabbings, according to police reports.
Police Commissioner Ed Davis is meeting with command staff and district level detectives to analyze each incident and see if any are connected or gang related.
One person was shot and killed in Roxbury on Monday night, just after 7 p.m. By midnight, two more were killed while driving in a car on Columbia Road.
The victim’s car crashed into a building on that road, after he was shot.
The names of the victims have not been released by the BPD, and no suspects have been identified.
Officer James Kenneally, spokesman for the BPD, said as weather gets warmer police sometimes see an increase in criminal activity.
“That said we also hope to see an increase in the level of cooperation and amount of information called into our tip line,” he said.
Last week, after a 4-year-old boy was shot in the back in a Dorchester park, Davis increased patrols in the area and vowed to put a stop to the amount of gang-related violence in Boston.
