Free ride at select Mass Pike tolls for pre-Thanksgiving travels

If you’re traveling along the Mass Pike the day before Thanksgiving to get home for the holiday, keep your coins in your center console because select tolls are free.

MassDOT Secretary Rich Davey announced the state has teamed up with Zappos.com to waive payments for both east and westbound drivers at the Allston Brighton toll plazas on Wednesday evening.

From 5 to 7 p.m. if you hit exits 18, 19 or 20 while traveling to your turkey destination, Zappos has got you covered.

Even drivers using Fast Lane can expect to catch a break—including a credit and message from Zappos.com on their next statement.

“Our roads across the Commonwealth are heavily traveled the day before Thanksgiving,” said Davey in a statement. “By teaming up with Zappos, it is my hope that we can make drivers a little less stressed about their commute during the holiday.”

Dubbed the “Happiness Campaign,” Matt Burchard, Zappos.com Sr. Director of Marketing said the apparel company saw this as an opportunity to “make people happy.”

“It feels like the right time of year, and appropriate place, to do that,” he said.

According to MassDOT officials, last year, 160,000 toll transactions were made at the designated interchanges the night before Thanksgiving. Around 16,000 of those occurred during the time Zappos.com plans to pay for tolls.
