Police officers used their pepper spray to help control a “fracas” that erupted at a Dorchester hospital this weekend when they tried to arrest people who had broken into the cafeteria and allegedly stole food.

The six people ranged in age from 17 to 37. All of them were charged with assault and battery on a police officer.

Three of them allegedly opened a metal grate at the closed cafeteria at the Carney Hospital and stole items.
