Getting 500 acres greener

Mayor Nutter and city officials today will launch Green 2015, a plan to transform 500 acres of empty or underused land throughout the city into publicly accessible green space over the next five years. The city will partner with local institutions, foundations and the private sector to make the improvements.

It includes affordably assembling acreage that “connects people to parks” in underserved neighborhoods and is an innovative way to boost the City’s compliance with new federal storm water regulations, set to take effect in 2011.
