Gilgo Beach murders: Remains of three more bodies found

The decomposed remains of three more bodies were found on Gilgo Beach in Long Island yesterday afternoon, bringing the total number of human remains found on the barrier beach to eight, the Suffolk County Police Department said.

“The remains were found in a wooded area between Oak Beach and Gilgo Beach,” a Suffolk County spokeswoman said. “The bodies are now at the medical examiner’s office.”

Suffolk County police had previously said they strongly suspect the dead bodies are the work of a serial killer who remains at large.

The search continued yesterday evening at the isolated stretch of beach and rough terrain along Ocean Parkway — about an hour’s drive from Manhattan — and was set to resume this morning.

Police are using three cadaver dog units, 22 police recruits, homicide detectives and members of three area fire departments to comb the beach.

A fifth set of remains found last week was ruled out as being those of missing Jersey City prostitute Shannan Gilbert.

Gilbert, 24, was last seen four miles west of the gruesome discovery in Oak Beach on May 1.

The young woman remains missing.
