The unrolling metal security gate outside Rita's Water Ice near 29th Street and Girard Avenue became a weapon when it collapsed away from the building Saturday, fatally falling on a toddler.

The victim has been identified as Wynter Larkin, 3, of Yeadon, the Daily News reported.

An estimated 20 to 30 men ran to lift the gate after it fell, trapping Larkin underneath the rolled-up metal gate portion, reports say. The gate was not rolled down at the time of the accident but the entire metal frame fell away from the facade of the business.

Such metal grille curtain are typically made with hundreds of bars of galvanized steel that are more than one-quarter inch thick.
