Greenport named one of prettiest towns

It may not come as a surprise to North Fork residents that Forbes magazine named Greenport one of America’s prettiest towns.

Forbes called Greenport “a town that perfectly mixes unpretentious Americana with the trappings of the modern food and wine scene.”

About a two-and-a-half-hour drive from New York City, the quaint fishing village on the Peconic Bay has a population of 2,139 and is surrounded by vineyards and waterfront views, and features boutique hotels, art galleries, restaurants and a 40-foot antique carousel.

“We’re extremely thrilled to be recognized,” Greenport village clerk Sylvia Parillo told Metro. “We understand that we have a jewel.”
