A robber with a nicotine addiction used an atypical weapon when he knocked over a Rockland convenience store this weekend.

The man walked into the Tedeschi Food Shop just after 7:30 p.m. Friday holding a hand grenade, Rockland police said in a statement.

The store clerks said the man, who was wearing a green bandanna over his face, demanded money. Besides the money, the robber asked for a pack of Camel non-filtered cigarettes, according to police.

After receiving an undetermined amount of cash, the man fled the store on foot.

No one was injured during the robbery.

It was not immediately clear if the grenade was real or fake.

Police described the suspect as a white man, about six feet tall. He was wearing a green camouflage bandanna over the top of his head and a white baseball cap with a turquoise brim. The hat had a logo that read "Brickyard 400 Indianapolis Motor Speedway August 5, 1995." It also had light blue paint spots on the left side.
