Hailo Boston, an app-based taxi hailing service, will celebrate its first birthday by offering free rides and Kickass Cupcakes to customers this week, according to the company, which has announced its expansion to Brookline.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our anniversary in Boston. The community here has been extremely welcoming,” said Vanessa Kafka, general manager of Hailo Boston. “Boston was the first Hailo city in the U.S. so the revolution to improve the way people hail cabs in the States truly started here.”

Hailo is teaming up with local pastry institution Kickass Cupcakes to distribute free Hailo-themed cupcakes from its food truck in Boston, Brookline and Cambridge on Wednesday. The truck will be accompanied by a Hailo-wrapped London taxi cab.

Locations and times are:

1. Brookline: Coolidge Corner Courtyard Marriott, 11am to 12:30pm

2. Cambridge: Tech Square, 1 to 3:15pm

3. Boston: Dewey Square, 3:30 – 5:30pm

“What a kickass combo, free cupcakes and cab rides,” said Sara Ross, owner of Kickass Cupcakes. “We are so excited to be a part of Hailo’s celebration.”

As for the free rides – all users will receive two (up to $15 each) on Wednesday and Thursday, with promo codes HAILODAY1 and HAILODAY2.

There are more than 2,000 licensed taxi drivers in Greater Boston registered with and actively using Hailo to pick up passengers through smartphone hails, a Hailo spokeswoman said.

In September, the companyexpanded into Cambridge, and announced its intention to branch out into Brookline and Somerville.
