A suspect escaped a police car in Brooklyn on Monday night while still wearing handcuffs, according to the NYPD.

A suspect escaped a police car in Brooklyn on Monday night while still wearing handcuffs, according to the NYPD.

Police said Darnell Thomas, 26, was on his way to Brooklyn Central Booking when he escaped the backseat of a marked cop car near Atlantic and South Portland Avenues around 6:30 p.m.

Thomas is 5-foot-8, police said. In addition to the handcuffs, he was last seen wearing a white shirt, a jacket with gold zippers and two gold earrings in each ear.

Police said Thomas was originally picked up for criminal mischief. It was not clear how he managed to flee the cop car.
