He was there when alleged mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger was caught and he was there when the bombs went off on Boylston Street and the subsequent manhunt.
On Tuesday, Richard DesLauriers, the special agent in charge of the FBI in Boston announced his retirement. His retirement is effective July 13.
The Longmeadow native has accepted a position as vice president of corporate security with the Penske Corporation in Michigan.
“It has been a distinct honor and privilege to serve for the past three years as SAC of the Boston Division of the FBI. I thank the very hard-working women and men of the FBI for their dedicated public service to our great nation,” DesLauriers said in a statement.
He began working for the FBI in 1987 and came to the Hub to lead the Boston Division three years ago.
