A Hingham credit card thief was overcome with a guilty conscience and decided to return the stolen loot.

A Hingham woman contacted police after a man had showed up at her doorstep and gave her credit card and a gift card to the woman's son. It turns out she had lost her credit card earlier that day at the Derby Street Shoppes, and the man had used it to buy a $200 gift card to a Gulf gas station.

But, overcome with guilt about his actions, the man decided to return the credit card and gift card to the Hingham woman, even though she hadn't realized it was missing,Wicked Local Hingham reported. The man told the boy that he was unemployed and intended to use the gift card to buy Christmas presents.

Police believe the man discovered the woman's address through an Internet search for her name, the article continued.
