A Hofstra student who was tragically killed by a police bullet in a hostage standoff was honored with a moment of silence at the Long Islanduniversity’s commencement on Sunday.
According to NBC New York, graduates wore white ribbons in memory of Andrea Rebello, 21, a public relations major.
Rebello was killed at her Uniondale home Friday night after an intruder put a gun to her head, forcing a Nassau County police officer to make a harrowing choice. The officer fired eight shots. Seven of them struck the intruder, 30-year-old Dalton Smith, killing him. A single shot struck Rebello in the head.
Rebello’s twin sister Jessica, also a hostage, survived the invasion.
