The "about" section of the campaign's Facebook page reads: "Are you sick of feeling unsafe when you go out at night? Have you been harassed, groped, bothered, or otherwise made to feel like you don’t belong somewhere? Then help us take back the bars!"
The group said in an announcement that Friday's gathering is not a protest:"We’ll begin arriving at 8pm to beat the rush, but you can join the group at any point in the evening. Remember: this is not a protest or a confrontational event, just a low-key gathering to create a safe space within a traditionally less-welcoming space."
As for the venue, a member of the organization said on Twitter that they have received stories from individuals who have not felt safe or have had "bad experiences" at the pub, which isslated to open a location in Boston'sSouth Stationlater this fall.
The restaurant's general manager, Patrick Dillon, said he was aware of the event, and that he applauds the group's objective and welcomes its members.
"I haven’t spoken to anyone from the group yet; I'm going to try to contact them through Facebook. We do everything possible to create a safe and fun environment for our guests," Dillon said, adding that the pub regularly employs up to a dozen security guards to ensure that guests aren't hassled.
