Kris Kringle isn’t the only one bringing cheer to peoples’ homes this season.
For the second year, South Boston resident Steve Mahoney is hand-delivering Christmas trees from New Hampshire farms to city-dwellers’ front doors through his personal business, City-Trees.com.
“It’s a fun thing to deliver and puts people in that Christmas spirit,” he said.
Last year, Mahoney delivered hundreds of trees to residents in Boston and the surrounding suburbs.
“People generally call me ‘the tree guy,’” he joked. “Ever since I could lift anything, I have been cutting down trees.”
A New Hampshire native who worked at a tree farm for most of his life, Mahoney “felt compelled” to offer Christmas tree delivery service to busy Bostonians to save them time from trekking through tree lots during the busy season.
And for an extra fee, Mahoney even sets up the tree for his customers.
Starting the day after Thanksgiving, Mahoney will begin dropping off balsam fir rees of various sizes to those who order them.
There is a limited supply of trees, so orders are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Co-owner of a South Boston bike shop, a slow cycling season allows Mahoney to hit the forests to bring back firs for families.
“You become part of their holiday. The trees are … the centerpiece around the Christmas season.”
