A confirmed tuberculosis (TB) case at a Lynn health center has triggered testing for more than 30 of the center’s workers and 800 patients.

Lynn Community Health Center Director Lori Berry confirmed to The Lynn Daily Item that one health care worker tested positive for TB around Labor Day.

City Health Director MaryAnn O’Connor tells that paper the confirmed case is ‘‘not a reason to panic.’’

TB is caused by an airborne bacteria that usually attacks the lungs, but can also affect the kidneys, spine and brain, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The disease can be fatal if not treated properly, according to the CDC.
