Injured girl’s parents plead for info

With tears in their eyes, the parents of the 6-year-old girl severely injured in a hit-and-run Saturday pleaded for the public to help find the driver who ran down their daughter.

“The person that hit my daughter did not hit an animal. He or she hit a person,” the girl’s father, Salvador, said through an interpreter. “If you have any kind of information … please put your hand over your heart and think about it.”

The girl’s parents, Salvador and Jovita, did not want to give their last name.

Their daughter Melissa was hit at Cambridge Street and Harvard Avenue in Allston while walking back from church with her parents about 8:20 p.m.

Melissa is recovering at Children’s Hospital from a traumatic brain injury, a damaged spleen and bleeding in her lungs.
