A man who appeared to have a problem with the Internal Revenue Service slashed his own wrists outside the “Today” show on Thursday morning before being tackled by cops and Rockefeller Plaza security.

The middle-aged man was standing in the midst of a crowd that had gathered on the plaza shortly before 8 a.m. to watch the taping of the popular breakfast show. He shouted that the IRS was corrupt and had ruined his life before pulling out a pocket knife, the Daily News reports. A bystander pulled the knife out of his hand but he took out another one and resumed cutting himself before security sent him sprawling.

The bloodied man was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he is reportedly expected to recover.

“Today” show host Matt Lauer addressed the incident on Twitter about an hour later.
