James Gandolfini’s body was flown home Sunday ahead of a funeral scheduled for this week at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan.

A jet carrying Gandolfini’s body touched down at Newark Liberty International Airport at about 9:30 p.m., according to news reports. Flags in New Jersey are being flown at half-staff Monday in memory of the “Sopranos” star.

An HBO spokeswoman told NBC News that the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Morningside Heights church.

Gandolfini, 51, died in Rome on Wednesday after he reportedly suffered a heart attack. He was on vacation with his 13-year-old son and planned to attend the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily on Saturday.

The actor won three Emmys for his portrayal of Tony Soprano. He also acted in a number of films, with recent roles in “Killing Them Softly” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”
