Popular Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy said that his family is “heartbroken” after his son was accused for brutally murdering his girlfriend last week in Waltham.
Remy, 60, issued a statement Saturday through his Twitter page after his son, Jared Remy was arrested for fatally stabbing his girlfriend Jenn Martel.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to Jenn Martel and her family. Words cannot describe my wife’s and my grief,” Remy said. “Son or not, I am at a loss for words articulating my disgust and remorse over this senseless and tragic act. We are heartbroken.”
Jared Remy pleaded not guilty to murdering Martel during his arraignment on Friday. He was arrested late Thursday after a violent attack at their Waltham home.
The Middlesex district attorney’s office said Remy was also arrested on Tuesday for assault and battery on Martel, but that he was released on his own recognizance after discussions with the arresting officer and with Martel, authorities said.
